The Score Project Meteorology

SCORE is a four-year EU-funded project (Horizon-2020) aiming to increase climate resilience in European coastal cities. The project will tackle specific challenges related to sea levels, coastal erosion and extreme weather events using an integrated solution of smart technologies and nature-based solutions.

The LaMMA consortium is one of the many projects partners and it is responsible for work package 3 dedicated to downscaling climate projections of atmospheric, wave, tidal and hydrological components by means of physical and statistical models to hydraulic models used for urban-scale flooding and long-term coastal erosion models.

LaMMA will work on the component of climate scenarios for coastal cities, which starting from the data made available by the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and the Copernicus Marine Services (CMS) will downscale the climate scenarios at the local level, for some of the 10 coastal cities involved. From this data, flooding modelling will be worked on to simulate flood risk conditions for these cities, due to the co-occurrence and interaction of various factors: flooding from rainfall, sea level rise and storm surge.
The long-term risks associated with coastal erosion will also be assessed. These assessments will then be analysed on the case study of the city of Massa, Tuscany.
